At the Vanity Fair Oscar celebration in Los Angeles, singer Sza looked simply lovely. Nevertheless, if you were to compare the singer’s current images to her selfies from a few years ago, you’d see a noticeable alteration in some of her facial features. What was the catalyst for this shift? Was the musician able to hire a team of makeup artists who specialize in contouring, or did she go under the knife? What we do know is summarized below.
When she first started her career, Sza had a very different appearance.
When she initially met Top Dawg Entertainment in 2011, she was only starting out in the music industry (TDE). After the release of her first two EPs, the president, Terrence “Punch” Henderson, signed her and she began to gain a following. In 2013, Sza was only beginning to get traction.
She had already begun working with some of the other artists on her label, and she released her debut EP, “Z,” the following year. After that, she began creating songs for other well-known musicians, such as Beyonce and Rihanna. In 2015, she looked like this (which is pretty much the same).
After her debut, Sza’s looks began to look different.
Sza’s debut album, “Ctrl,” was published in 2017, and it received a lot of great feedback and increased her exposure. It was certified platinum after debuting at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200. Time magazine even called it the year’s finest album. And it was around this period that the artist began to change.
Sza had, however, shed several pounds by that time. This would certainly account for her smaller face.
She talked about her weight loss in a 2017 interview while defending Kendrick Lamar’s controversial stretch mark lyrics. She expressed herself as follows: “If you want to support women, you should support all shapes of women… I used to be 200 pounds, and I have stretch marks all over my body. I find more comfort and solace with Kendrick reinforcing that I’m beautiful.”
When she made an appearance at the 2017 BET Awards, the breakout talent wore a stunning gown. Her nose and chin, though, appear to have undergone some cosmetic surgery… Or was it just a case of masterful contouring?
The changes in her appearance have been noted by fans.
Fans were quick to note Sza’s straighter nose and larger chin, publishing side-by-side photos of the singer on social media to establish that she had undergone surgery at some point. Even though her nose was properly sculpted, it’s difficult to explain how her chin evolved…

Has Sza spoken up about the rumored surgery?
The singer never addressed the claims explicitly, but fans note that she has subsequently erased photographs that publications were claiming to indicate she underwent surgery. For example, a photo of her being recognized by the City of Hope in 2018 implied that she had a nose job.
She had said in the caption: “Thank you so much for having me last night @cityofhope. Honored to have been recognized at an event for something as important as cancer research.” However, once fans and journalists began to speculate about her surgery, the singer took it down. Hmm…
Though she’s remained tight-lipped about the possibility of plastic surgery, she’s been candid about her weight-loss journey. She mentioned that she was always comfortable in her own self when attending Dove’s Girl Collective Launch in 2018.
“It’s all about where it starts in your mind,” she explained. “I think there are a lot of standards that people told me about that I didn’t see. I started, I was 190 pounds, I only wore my dad’s big t-shirts and socks on stage, no shoes, and didn’t even notice; never complained or tripped about my makeup.”
The singer also talked about how she’s grown since then.
I just found out 8 minutes ago that SZA had plastic surgery. I’m terribly hurt and my trust issues now have a whole new level of depth. pic.twitter.com/1N2ZSeV6fT

She explained: “It was just a matter of where I was in my mind, but I did also come out of that space where I was like, I feel like I want to change. I want to be different. I want to grow. I want to learn. I think it’s one thing to be comfortable, but then it’s one thing to not see your full potential and your full picture. The standard should really come [from] within.”
As of now, it appears that we will never know whether the singer had work done, but she appears to be happy and secure in her appearance. And it’s the only thing that matters! We’ll be happy as long as she’s happy.
