Everyone has their own habits and quirks. Some of us like to play video games. Others are crazy about sports. Shopping might be your thing, and you can’t stop until you’ve used up all of your credit cards. Because most of us can keep our little fetish things in check, we’re all happy. That is not true for everyone on Earth.
For example, there is a woman from Los Angeles who goes by the name of Sydney Smith. Because she wants to have a long neck like a giraffe, she is called the Giraffe Woman. But we would never tell anyone not to be who they want to be. People, on the other hand, tend to go a little too far. She didn’t, but there were a lot of things Smith was taught that made her capable of being almost anything. The people who knew her didn’t know that she was going to be a giraffe, though. As it turns out, that’s what she wanted to be. But it wasn’t going to be an easy trip.
Giraffes are known for having spots and having one of the longest necks in all of the animal world.
With their long necks, giraffes can find food in places that are hard to reach, like a tall trees. People don’t have necks this long, so it was going to be hard for them to do this neck stretching technique. Smith isn’t the first woman to do this.
When it comes to neck stretching, the women of Kayan in Southeast Asia are the best at what they do!
The people here have been using brass coils to stretch their necks for a long time now. When some girls are young, they start a beauty trend in this area. In the end, they’ll have long necks. Smith set out to do that.
Smith thought that the best way to show her love for giraffes was to become like them.
So, she started to stretch her neck, which wasn’t very easy to do. She had to have the rings made just for her. There were rings added one after the other over time to push her collar bone down. There were 15 rings on her neck at the end of the process, which took five years.
The rings might look light, but they’re not. The rings together weighed 5 pounds, which must have put a lot of strain on Sydney Smith neck. She didn’t know how much this process would hurt her.
Smith didn’t come from a country in Southeast Asia, but she had a crush on giraffes with long necks that she liked. If the women of the Kayan Lahwi tribes could do it, then she thought she could too. It was just a matter of going through the long process to get the right results. And when Ripley’s Believe It or Not puts you in their comics, you know you’ve made it.
Smith wanted to show her followers on social media how her neck lengthening was going, so she made a plan. Coils have grown since she started the process. It was clear to everyone that she was going to change. Then, look! When she was out, she even wore a top with the printed spots of a giraffe all over it.
Besides, the rings weighed five pounds. When you have to wear them all day for 24 hours straight, it can make you a little crazy. Because she didn’t want to mess up the process, she couldn’t even take them off. That’s why Smith began to question her decision.
After five years, Smith decided to give up on her quest to make her neck longer. It dawned on her that she couldn’t do everyday things well with fifteen rings on her neck. But more importantly, she had found it hard to work. She couldn’t stay away from human society or not do things like drive. So, she came up with a way to stop it.
Smith had become a virtual recluse and felt like the rings had slowly taken over her life. It took her a while, but she eventually came to the conclusion that, even though she loved the idea of having an animal’s neck with rings, there was no way she could keep making them. But when she took off the rings, she saw a bad side effect.
Her collarbone was very bruised in places when she took the necklace off right after she put it on. Her neck was also weak. However, she didn’t panic. Instead, she went to get some help. It was hard for her neck to move. She had physical therapy several times a week. Smith’s doctors are very happy with how quickly she’s been able to get better, and she’s also very happy.
Because Smith has tried to make her neck longer, does she regret it? Not at all! She liked the experience and how the rings felt on her neck. Her collarbones were bigger before, but now they aren’t as big as they used to be. But she’s happy that her neck has shrunk a little bit, but it’s still longer than it was before she started.
