Is Sleeping Mom While Taking Care of Baby a Big Deal?
It’s terrifying to leave your infant in the care of a babysitter sleeping mom. Even the prospect of entrusting the care of your child to a close friend or member of your family can be a difficult one to swallow for some parents. However, it’s essential to maintain some distance from your children for a variety of reasons, and everyone needs a little time to themselves to feel like a person and not just a “mom” or “dad.”
30% of children in the United States rely on spending time with their grandparents while their parents are busy, and other family members or close friends look after much smaller percentages. For the most part, parents must turn to various services, businesses, or personal recommendations to locate child care.

Understandably, people become jaded by their jobs, no matter how rewarding they may appear, but being entrusted with the care of another person’s child is seen as sacred in a way that is hard to explain.
A now-viral TikTok video posted by Danielle Mitchell, who goes by the username @danimariemit, may be why so many people are outraged.
She begins the video by asking her fans, “Am I overreacting?” before going into detail about an incident involving a babysitter she hired to watch her and her husband’s 10-month-old child.
According to Danielle and her husband, this was the first time anyone other than their parents were watching the baby.
She mentioned that the babysitter was able to rock their child to sleep in just 15 minutes before she and her husband could leave the house to have some alone time.
Sleeping mom dozing off
When she went to check the cameras in their home on a date night, she was surprised to see the sleeping mom babysitter. Danielle initially thought she was listening to an audiobook while she was manning the fort because that was what she had said she would do while there. However, Danielle’s “freak out” began after she texted the sitter to let the dog inside the house but received no response.
“Internally, I’m starting to freak out. She’s watching our son, but she’s asleep. But he’s also asleep. But he’s only ten months, and I don’t know if she would hear him if he woke up and started crying.”
In addition, Danielle claims that the sitter didn’t wake up immediately after Danielle returned to her home. Even more so, she noticed that the baby monitor wasn’t on, which could have allowed the sitter the excuse of taking their nappy off to do his business.
She enquired of her fans: “I’m not sure what to make of this. Is it normal for your babysitter to fall asleep while taking care of your children?”
Danielle also mentions that she and her husband didn’t stay out late and got home by 9.30 p.m. with their son. Asked if the babysitter was aware she was being recorded, MomToker replied that there are apparent cameras everywhere in the house, to which some users reacted with surprise.
Some of the commenters thought that the sleeping mom babysitter’s sleeping was not a big deal at all. Some people agreed with them but also decided that the monitor should have been on.
One commenter argued that the babysitter’s napping shouldn’t be viewed as a significant issue because Danielle does the same thing. In a follow-up video, the TikToker stated that comparing the two situations is unfair.
