In 2018, Buckley Carlson and his dad Tucker were having an angry dispute with a gay Latino man when the family was having dinner at the Farmington Country Club in Virginia. Hopie went to use the restroom with a friend near the end of dinner and on their way back a man stopped them. He asked if she was sitting next to Tucker before calling her “f***ing c**t,” and saying “Are you Tucker’s who**re?”
When Hopie returned to the table in tears, Buckley went into the bar and confronted the man. Carlson threw a glass of red wine in the man’s face and told him to leave, Tucker then described what happened to the club’s management. The man’s membership at this club was revoked after investigation. “I think any father can understand the overwhelming rage and shock that I felt seeing my teenage daughter attacked by a stranger. But I restrained myself. I didn’t assault this man, and neither did my son.”
The incident caused an uproar. It was said that Tucker spitted racist comments towards the man, which only fueled more controversy. When asked about the rumors, Carlson replied that he didn’t know the man was gay or Latino, and even if they knew it wouldn’t make any difference.
